There are few cards on the market that are as popular and revered as the The Platinum Card® from American Express. There’s the sheer weight of it, the lounge access, hotel status, perks and benefits and the generous welcome bonus. It’s a hefty card with hefty value!

The Details
We’re big fans of American Express Membership Rewards points. The Platinum Card from American Express is a standout, not just for its travel perks but also for a whole slew of useful credits.
For starters, you’ll get up to $200 in airline fee credits to use on incidental charges with a selected airline, plus up to $209 in credits toward a CLEAR® Plus membership.
You’ll also unlock access to the American Express Global Lounge Collection®, with access to Centurion Lounges and Priority Pass lounges around the world, as well as complimentary Gold status with Hilton Honors and Marriott Bonvoy. (Enrollment required)
The card is stacked with monthly and annual credits too. Think up to $75 quarterly credits at Lululemon, up to $15 in Uber Cash each month (December is up to $20), up to $100 a year for Saks Fifth Avenue purchases, and up to $25 monthly in credits for select digital subscriptions — like Disney+, the Disney Bundle, ESPN+, Hulu, The New York Times, Peacock, and The Wall Street Journal (enrollment required to activate some of these benefits and credits).
This card earns 5X points on flights that are purchased directly from airlines or through American Express Travel® (on up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year) and 1x on most other purchases.
LEARN HOW TO APPLY
A couple notes: this isn’t a card we recommend if you are still under 5/24. Not sure what that means? Read about it here.
Once over 5/24", we recommend getting Amex personal cards in this order, so you don’t miss out on any of the valuable welcome bonuses:
The American Express Green Card®
Opening these in any other order may forfeit your chances to earn the valuable welcome bonuses from the other cards.
